Discover Your Future at The Henry Samueli School of Engineering

There are a number of factors to consider when deciding where to go to college. Ultimately, your goal is to find the best match between you and a college or university. Here in The Henry Samueli School of Engineering, we feel that motivation and support are critical to a student's success - and selecting the right major in the right environment makes all the difference.

Learn Where To Start

Most student's college education starts by learning what's availble to study: What should I major in?. There is almost no end to the list of majors to choose from and even within Engineering there are dozens of disciplines. Many students choose majors based on starting salaries, prestige, etc. And while these are realistic considerations, the bottom line is that a motivated, supported student will succeed in whatever major they choose. A student that isn't motivated, that is majoring in something they don't love to do, will struggle no matter how talented they are.

Finding that match isn't always easy. Home to four academic departments, three interdisciplinary programs and six research centers, The Henry Samueli School of Engineering offers unparalleled opportunity for students to delve into whatever area of engineering most appeals to them, whether it's in biomedical, wireless computing, advanced energy systems or aerodynamic design.

Using these resources as a foundation, we work with students to help them explore major options both inside and outside engineering. We assist students in finding their way to the major that is right for them and support students interested in minors, dual-, and even triple-majors.

Live Your Life

The college or university you choose will be your home for the next 4 years. Are you looking for a small college or large university? Rural or urban setting? What do you like to do for fun? These are important considerations in choosing a college. Simply stated, it's very difficult to focus on your education if you are uncomfortable and unhappy.

That means that engineers emerge not only with a degree but with practical training and an understanding of the responsibilities that come with the title. Engineering is also a highly dynamic discipline and partnerships with industry are needed to help shape the curriculum as trends change and to give students access to the experience of being an engineer.
